Miami Surges Past No. 6 Notre Dame in Late-Thriller
In a gripping season opener, No. 10 Miami stunned No. 6 Notre Dame 27–24 on their home turf. Quarterback Carson Beck, in his Miami debut, threw for 205 yards and two touchdowns, showcasing poise under pressure. The Hurricanes sealed the win when kicker Carter Davis drilled a 47-yard field goal with 1:04 left, ending an eight-year drought against top-10 opponents.
CJ Daniels grabbed the spotlight with a spectacular one-handed touchdown catch, and Rueben Bain came up with a key fourth-quarter interception thanks to a thrice-deflected pass. Miami edged Notre Dame in total offense, racking up 324 yards to 314, showing just enough balance to prevail.

For the Irish, CJ Carr, in his first start for Notre Dame, went 19-of-30 for 221 yards with two passing touchdowns and one interception. He also added a dramatic rushing touchdown with 3:21 left to tie the game, completing a rally after trailing by 14. Meanwhile, Miami relied on Mark Fletcher Jr. (66 rushing yards) and Malachi Toney (82 receiving yards, 1 TD) to spark key drives. Notre Dame’s offense leaned on Jadarian Price for 45 rushing yards and Eli Raridon’s 97 receiving yards.
Defensively, Miami made their presence felt when it counted. After Carr’s game-tying run, the Hurricanes orchestrated a 10-play, 46-yard drive that culminated in Davis’s field goal, then closed the game with two late sacks by Rueben Bain and Akheem Mesidor to seal the win. Attendance was strong, with 66,793 fans witnessing the comeback in Miami Gardens.
