The Seattle Seahawks escaped State Farm Stadium with a dramatic 23-20 victory over the Arizona Cardinals on Thursday Night Football, thanks to Jason Myers’ clutch 52-yard field goal as time expired in Week 4 NFL action.
Fourth Quarter Heroics Seal Seahawks Victory
What appeared to be a comfortable Seattle lead nearly turned into a devastating loss. The Seahawks controlled the game through three quarters, building a 14-3 halftime advantage before watching Arizona mount a furious fourth-quarter comeback that tied the game 20-20 with just 28 seconds remaining.
The game-winning drive began when Arizona’s kickoff failed to reach the landing zone, giving Seattle excellent field position at the 40-yard line. Sam Darnold immediately connected with breakout star Jaxon Smith-Njigba for a crucial 22-yard gain, setting up Myers for the game-winner two plays later.
Darnold and Smith-Njigba Connection Powers Seattle
Sam Darnold continued his impressive 2024 campaign, completing 18 of 26 passes for 242 yards and one touchdown while showcasing his mobility throughout the contest. The veteran quarterback’s scrambling ability was on full display, including a spectacular 32-yard completion to rookie tight end Elijah Arroyo followed by a 24-yard rushing touchdown that extended Seattle’s halftime lead.
Jaxon Smith-Njigba added another chapter to his record-breaking season, hauling in four catches for 79 yards. The second-year receiver entered Thursday with 323 receiving yards through three games, the best start in Seahawks franchise history. His clutch fourth-quarter performance proved decisive, as Darnold targeted him three times for 69 yards on passes traveling 10-plus yards downfield in the final frame.

Cardinals Rally Falls Short Despite Late Surge
Arizona’s offense struggled for three quarters before exploding in the fourth quarter behind quarterback Kyler Murray. The Cardinals scored 17 unanswered points, including touchdown passes to Marvin Harrison Jr. and Emari Demercado, but ultimately couldn’t complete the comeback.
Murray finished 27 of 41 for 200 yards, two touchdowns, and two interceptions. Both picks came on targets to Harrison Jr., with the rookie receiver contributing to the turnovers. However, the Harrison-Murray connection found its rhythm after halftime, connecting on 5 of 5 attempts for 58 yards in the second half.
Harrison Jr.‘s fourth-quarter touchdown marked the 10th of his young career, the most by a Cardinals receiver through two seasons since John Brown’s 12 touchdowns in 2014-2015.
