Colorado Opens Season with 27–20 Loss to Georgia Tech — Deion Sanders Calls for Improvements After Costly Mistakes
The hype around Colorado football under head coach Deion “Coach Prime” Sanders was electric heading into the season opener, but the Buffaloes stumbled to a 27–20 home loss against Georgia Tech. Despite flashes of promise, Colorado’s mistakes and late-game struggles proved too much to overcome, leaving fans frustrated in Boulder.

The Buffs started strong with defensive energy, forcing turnovers and keeping Georgia Tech in check early. But execution issues mounted as the game went on. The breaking point came in the fourth quarter when Yellow Jackets quarterback Haynes King broke free for a 45-yard touchdown run that sealed Colorado’s fate.
Offensively, new quarterback Kaidon Salter showed poise but struggled to generate big plays, finishing with 159 passing yards. The Buffaloes’ attack lacked consistency, stalling on key drives and missing opportunities to capitalize on field position.
More than anything, Sanders’ clock management in the closing minute sparked debate. With two timeouts and 67 seconds to work with, Colorado ran out of time without using its remaining timeouts—a decision fans and analysts immediately criticized.
Sanders, however, refused to sound alarm bells after the game:
“We could have won that game. It’s not like we got dominated. We’ll fix this.”
