Chiefs 0-2 Start: Eagles Beat Kansas City 20-17 in Super Bowl Rematch 2025

The Kansas City Chiefs suffered their second straight loss of the season, falling 20-17 to the Philadelphia Eagles in a highly anticipated Super Bowl rematch. The defeat drops the defending champions to an alarming 0-2 start, their worst beginning since 2014.

Mahomes Struggles in Eagles Victory

Patrick Mahomes completed 16 of 29 passes for 187 yards, one touchdown, and one crucial interception that proved costly in the fourth quarter. Despite adding a rushing touchdown, the superstar quarterback couldn’t replicate his usual magic against a determined Eagles defense.

Travis Kelce was held to just four catches for 61 yards, as Philadelphia’s defense successfully limited the Chiefs’ top receiving threat throughout the contest.

Eagles Ground Game Powers Victory

Saquon Barkley led Philadelphia’s rushing attack with 22 carries for 88 yards and a touchdown, including the game’s opening score on a 13-yard run in the first quarter. The former Giants star has quickly become a key weapon in the Eagles’ offensive arsenal.

Jalen Hurts completed 15 of 22 passes for 101 yards while adding a rushing touchdown, managing the game effectively and avoiding costly mistakes.

The game’s momentum shifted dramatically in the fourth quarter when Mahomes’ pass intended for Kelce was tipped and intercepted by Eagles safety Andrew Mukuba. Philadelphia capitalized immediately, using their signature “tush-push” play to extend their lead to 20-10.

The Eagles achieved a rare feat by shutting out Kansas City completely in the third quarter, taking a 13-10 lead on a 51-yard field goal by Jake Elliott.

Chiefs’ Late Rally Falls Short

Kansas City showed championship heart with a 49-yard touchdown pass from Mahomes to Tyquan Thornton with three minutes remaining, cutting the deficit to three points. However, the Eagles controlled the clock effectively to preserve their victory.

Historical Significance

This marks the Chiefs’ first 0-2 start in over a decade, raising questions about their championship defense. The loss comes exactly two seasons after these teams met in Super Bowl LVII, where Philadelphia fell short in a classic encounter.

Looking Ahead

The Eagles will return home next Sunday to host the Los Angeles Rams, while the Chiefs hit the road to face the New York Giants. Kansas City desperately needs their first win to avoid falling further behind in the competitive AFC West.

The early season struggles have fans and analysts questioning whether the Chiefs can overcome this slow start to defend their title. With Mahomes and Andy Reid leading the way, Kansas City has historically responded well to adversity, but the 0-2 hole presents their biggest early-season challenge in years.
